Multilingualism and Fluency in Foreign Languages
At the heart of our school project
The advanced learning process of foreign languages starting from primary school and the promotion of multilingual education are at the heart of the French education project abroad. They contribute to the excellence of our institution while meeting the expectations of families.
The Lycée Français International Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clezio, like all institutions in the AEFE network, promotes the teaching of French and in French in perfect complementarity with the learning of other foreign languages, aiming to form multilingual students open to cultural diversity.
Convinced that multilingualism is a significant asset for all of its students, the teams at the Lycée Français International of Port-Vila have developed coherent, ambitious, and meaningful linguistic pathways that gradually lead towards success and excellence.
Since 2023, the Lycée Français International Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio has implemented a Linguistic Pathway that is fully aligned with its school project, prioritizing openness to the South Pacific and aiming to train future citizens capable of international integration. This linguistic pathway forms a coherent set from preschool through to the final year.
Starting from Cycle 1 (the three levels of preschool), English is introduced to students for 4 hours per week.
In Cycle 2 (from CP to CE2), students have 2 hours of English learning, reinforced by 1 hour of Integrated Subject Teaching in a Foreign Language (EMILE).
In Cycle 3 (CM1 and CM2), students benefit from 2 hours of English learning and 4 hours of teaching in English across various subjects as part of the Australian International Section, which opened in 2024.
In year 6 /7, students have 4 hours of English learning, reinforced by 1 hour of Music Education taught in English (Non-Linguistic Discipline).
In Cycle 4 (year 7, 8, 9 / 8, 9, 10), students benefit from 3 hours of English learning and 2.5 hours of a second foreign language (Spanish or Chinese) teaching, reinforced by 1 hour of Music Education taught in English (Non-Linguistic Discipline).
In high school, students continue their learning in FL1 (English) and FL2 (Spanish or Chinese). They have the option to choose the Australian International Section (SIA) in year 10 / 11 and join the French International Baccalaureate (British-Australian) in year 11 / 12. Students who choose not to join the SIA or the BFI can advance their English language learning by following an optional Non-Linguistic Discipline (DNL) pathway, where math and physics lessons are taught in English for 2 hours per week. Finally, students in year 11 /12 who have not chosen the BFI or DNL can pursue a specialised subject in Language, Literature, and European Culture, in English.
