Middle School Student Council (C.V.C Conseil de Vie Collégienne)

C.V.C Duties

The Middle School Council (Conseil de la Vie Collégienne) makes proposals on:

–  Issues related to the general principles of school organisation, the structuring of the school schedule, the development of the school strategic plan school rules and regulations, as well as matters concerning facilities, catering, and boarding;

–  The organisation of personal study time, student support arrangements, and linguistic and cultural exchanges in partnership with foreign educational institutions;

–  Actions aimed at improving student well-being and the school environment, as well as promoting participatory practices;

–  The implementation of educational pathways established within the school;

–  The training of student representatives;

Configuration and Operation

The Middle School Student Council includes:

–  The school principal, who serves as the president,

–  Student representatives,

–  At least two staff representatives, including at least one teacher

–  At least one representative of the parents.

The Educational Board deliberates on the number and type of members of the Middle School Student Council (CVC), the procedures for their election or appointment, the operational arrangements, and the conditions under which its proposals are submitted to the Educational Board. The members of the Student Council are elected or appointed no later than the end of the calendar year following the start of the school year.

At the French high school JMG Le Clézio, the student representatives in the Middle School Student Council (CVC) are the eco-delegates from the middle school classes. This approach helps prioritise actions related to sustainable development.

High School Student Council (C.V.L Conseil des délégués pour la Vie Lycéenne)

C.V.L Duties

High school students express their opinions and make proposals, which are then brought to the attention of the Educational Board.

The High School Student Council has the following responsibilities:

1.  It makes proposals regarding the training of student representatives.

2. It is mandatorily consulted on:

–  Matters related to the general principles of academic organisation, the structuring of the school schedule, the development of the School Strategic Plan  and rules and  regulations, as well as issues concerning catering and boarding;

– The general arrangements for the organisation of personal study time, personalised support, measures to assist with changes in academic orientation, student support and assistance, as well as linguistic and cultural exchange programs in partnership with European and foreign educational institutions.

–  Information related to academic and career guidance, school and university studies, and professional careers;

–  Health, hygiene, and safety, as well as the arrangement of spaces dedicated to student life;

–  The organisation of sports, cultural, and extracurricular activities;

The vice-president of the High School Life Student Council (CVL) presents opinions, proposals, and meeting reports to the Secondary Education Council and the Educational Board.

Configuration

Members of the High School Students Council (CVL)
The CVL is composed of:

– The school principal, who serves as the president.
– Ten high school students, elected as student representatives.

Additionally, ten representatives of staff and parents participate in CVL meetings in an advisory capacity. These include:

– Five representatives from teaching, educational, and academic support staff.
– Three representatives from administrative, social, health, technical, and service staff.
– Two representatives from parents.

Election and Appointment Procedures:

– Student representatives in the CVL are elected for two years through a single-round, majoritarian, plurinominal voting system
– In case of a tie, the youngest candidate is elected
– Each elected member has an alternate, chosen under the same conditions
– If an elected member is in their final year of studies, their alternate must be enrolled in a lower grade
– An alternate can only serve in the absence of the titular representative.
– Half of the CVL student representatives are renewed each year.
–  During the election of the Secondary Education and The Educational Board representatives CVL student representatives elect one main representative and one alternate to the Secondary Education Council and the Educational Board through a two-round uninominal voting system
– The elected main representative serves as the vice-president of the CVL
– Staff and Parent Representatives
– Staff representatives are appointed annually from among volunteer teaching, educational, administrative, technical, social, and health personnel. This is done through the Secondary Education Council, where it exists, or otherwise through the Educational Board
– Two parent representatives are elected by the parent representatives in the Secondary Education Council, or, if it does not exist, in the School Council.
