The Queen’s Commonwealth essay competition
The year 11 and 12 students who have chosen « spécialité LLCE » (Languages, literature and foreign culture -English-) have just participated in a creative writing competition organized by the « Royal Commonwealth society » and reserved for Commonwealth schools. This competition is the oldest international writing competition for schools in the world, established in 1883.
This competition fits perfectly in the spirit of the LLCE specialty, one of the objectives of which is to train students in creative writing. Our students had to write a text in English of 1,500 words maximum, on the theme imposed for 2021: the community in the Commonwealth (in the special context of the COVID-19 pandemic). This theme is linked to the program of the specialty: dystopias in year 11, and « journeys, territories, borders » in year 12. The texts have been sent, and the results will be announced in a few weeks. Whatever the results, our students have all been creative and their teacher congratulates them!
