The German group Bayer has announced the purchase of the US giant seed GMO Monsanto, for 66 billion dollars (59 billion euros).
The transaction will bring together two different but highly complementary activities, seeds, fertilizers and pesticides.
The future world leader in seeds and pesticides aims to control the entire agricultural chain, from seeds to the plate of the consumer.
Between them, Bayer and Monsanto will generate 23 billion euros in annual turnover with a workforce of around 140,000 employees.
