The year 11 students (1ères STMG) aboard the « Pirogue »!

On Wednesday, September 18th, 2019, year 11 students went to meet Anna Naupa at the « Pirogue 2019 » book fair.

First, students heard Julie Dupré telling « Le gros tarot » in a very expressive way, then they could listen to Mrs. Naupa, the first Nivan to graduate from Harvard. Anna Naupa is a historian, director of the APTC and author. On top of having translated the Nabanga Pikinini book collection in 3 languages (Bislama, English and French), Mrs. Naupa has written: No longer captives of the past / Ne plus être esclaves du passe: The story of a reconciliation on Erromango / L’histoire d’une réconciliation sur Erromango.

Accompanied by a custom Chief from Erromango, Ms. Naupa spoke about the customs and traditions of Erromango. The chief then shared a traditional song of his island.

Anna Naupa emphasized the essential values of reconciliation she writes about in the novel as well as the importance of preserving the culture of her country and history in general. She also insisted on the team work that was necessary for her novels.

The students found Ms. Naupa very warm, and eager to share her passion. A very good experience for everyone!
